More than ever, our school systems need support. Indeed, funding, culture, and current events can be excuses for school system deficits. While all students need assistance, our most vulnerable students are those with special needs. My career, personal life, and passion for students revolve around creating systems to increase outcomes for students with disabilities. I have been fortunate to serve students ages 3 to the doctoral level. In the process, my network has grown over the past decades to include some outstanding educators who truly understand what it takes to move systems to create equity and access.
What started as counseling friends and peers in the field has evolved into supporting school districts. The side-by-side support approach to elevate systems allows us to build upon the treasures each organization has built. Simply put, "passion" is what drives us. The goal is moving from transactional to transformational, and ultimately transformational, practices.
I consider myself a proud San Diegan, but my heart is in the Central Valley. Working with colleges and school districts throughout California solidifies my "why" for the work that is needed. No question, I am passionate about the success of all students, but the 99 freeway corridor is the most challenging. The team and I embrace challenges.
Stay strong, stay vigilant, and more importantly, lead with your heart.- Dr. JoJo Reyes
